Product information
Product information
The minimalist and functional sideboard model S943 was designed by Kurt Thut in 1953. Its construction and design were based on modern architectural principles, as applied in the architecture of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The sideboard, which helped Thut furniture achieve its breakthrough, symbolizes the transition from traditional carpentry to a modern, functional design object.
The sideboard features two equally sized compartments, each equipped with a shelve. These can be individually positioned at the desired height on either side. This timeless piece of furniture, offering ample storage space, is a classic of mid-century design.

Biography Kurt Thut
As an architect, furniture designer, and producer, Kurt Thut (1931–2011) embodied various aspects of Swiss interior design from the 1950s to the 1990s. Thut began his career with an apprenticeship as a carpenter. This was followed by studies as an interior designer at the Zurich School of Applied Arts under Willy Guhl, Hans Bellmann, and Johannes Itten. After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant to Hans Fischli, architect and director of the Zurich School of Applied Arts. In 1958, he founded the "Swiss Design" collective with Trix and Robert Hausmann, Hans Eichenberger, and Teo Jakob.
As an architect, he was influenced by Mies van der Rohe and designed his first houses based on his design philosophy. As a designer, he pursued a purist and ecological design approach for 47 years. As a producer, he succeeded in experimenting with new materials and thus became a leading figure in the new Swiss design in the 1980s.
